Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.As a Development Lab Technician III on the Project Kuiper DevOps team, you will bring a strong base of hands-on skills in mechanical or electrical disciplines to support complex development hardware tasks. You will work semi-autonomously on test setups, prototype builds, and tool/process improvements alongside Lab Engineers, and will play a key role in maintaining a safe, functional, and scalable development lab.Key job responsibilities
- Independently execute electrical and mechanical tasks such as harness routing, basic machining, assembly, and test fixture wiring.- Set up and operate equipment with moderate complexity (e.g., bench-top mills, soldering stations, oscilloscopes, DAQ systems).- Perform functional checks, basic debug, and assist in root cause analysis with engineers.- Interpret moderately complex drawings, schematics, and build instructions.- Support development article fabrication and document feedback on fit/form/function issues.- Mentor Tech IIs or cross-train others on specialized procedures or equipment.- Help improve and define lab procedures, support 6S/Kaizen activities, and maintain tooling/supply readiness.- Maintain high standards for lab safety, data cleanliness, and documentation practices.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 2+ years experience in a hands-on technician role in R&D, aerospace, test, or equivalent environments.- Proficiency with mechanical and/or electrical build tools and inspection techniques.- Demonstrated ability to execute tasks with minimal supervision while escalating edge cases appropriately.- Strong communication and documentation habits; contributes to process development.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in aerospace, automotive, robotics, or other high-reliability development or prototyping environments.- Familiarity with interpreting and working from engineering drawings, schematics, and build instructions.- Proficiency with standard mechanical assembly practices, including torque specifications and fastener selection.- Experience with hand tools, test instruments (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes), and mechanical measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers).- Exposure to basic machining, rework, or fabrication tasks (e.g., using mills, drill presses, or band saws).- Understanding of ESD-safe work practices and handling of sensitive components.- Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and experience applying it during inspection or fabrication.- Familiarity with industry quality standards such as ISO 9001 or AS9100.- Experience contributing to process documentation or test procedure development in a hands-on engineering support environment.- Certifications such as IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620, J-STD-001, or equivalent are a plus.
