Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.As the Senior Industrial Engineer for the fulfillment team at Project Kuiper, you will be directly responsible for the analysis, solution definition, and continuous improvement, of operational and industrial mechanisms/workflows at the site. You’ll be the leading technical voice defining the layout of warehousing facilities, ensuring layouts are fit for future scaling as well as optimized around minimum material movement. You will serve as a key orchestrator connecting operations, engineering, and logistical functions to ensure solutions reduce waste, improve yield, and have the practical result of more reliable, cost effective, operational processes.You will leverage your expertise in industrial engineering and operational research to lead data collection, analysis, and modeling activities for key site level requirements like material flow optimization, labor sizing, capacity planning, end-to-end cycle time assessments, etc. You will leverage a deep understanding of fulfillment/warehousing processes, material flow, and automation technologies to drive efficiencies at scale. You’ll be a champion for lean principles and continuous improvement projects, raising the bar on the quality of solutions presented to the operations group.Key job responsibilities
- Conceptualize and develop facility layout and work cell designs to optimize material flow through inbound, receiving, storage, picking, kitting, and outbound transfers between facilities, supporting end-to-end fulfillment operations.
- Evaluate and implement material handling and storage solutions using technology, robotics, automation, and data analytics to meet the product flow requirements.
- Specify, lead, and develop analysis, and produce modeling, associated with labor, capacity, cycle time, headcount, and capex requirements for operational processes and planning.- Identify and analyze key operational and financial metrics (KPIs) as part of program and feature selection in order to drive smart decisions.
- Coordinate with operations and technology teams to understand voice of the customer, develop business requirements, and develop product features that optimize the performance of the warehouse.
- Be the subject matter expert in SAP EWM.- Contribute to development of standard ways of working across Kuiper for industrial engineering activities.
A day in the life
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Industrial or Mechanical Engineering preferred)
- 5+ years of progressive experience in warehouse/manufacturing operations, process improvements, industrial design, robotics/automation, or related fields
- 3+ years’ experience with SAP EWM or similar warehouse management systems
- Experience performing Capacity and Headcount analysis at organizational level
- Experience with developing, planning, and deploying work cells in warehousing/manufacturing environments
- Experience with process mapping, value stream mapping, leading Kaizens.
- Familiarity with warehouse operations
- Experience with Statistical Process Control
- Master’s degree in Engineering (Industrial or Mechanical Engineering preferred), Business Administration, or 7+ years of progressive experience in related fields.
- Lean Six Sigma Green/Blackbelt
- Experience with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems including robotics for parts fulfillment/manufacturing operations.
- Experience with operations research concepts like queuing theory, transportation theory, etc.
- Experience with process design and improvements based on Lean Principles
- Experience in new product introduction (NPI) environments or site launches.
- Experience using business/technical software like AutoCAD, BIM360, warehouse simulation software like FlexSim, and commercial off the shelf technologies such as Tableau, SQL, etc.
